A Diehling Devotional

Gen 11:8-9
"So the LORD scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city.  That is why it was called Babel--because there the LORD confused the language of the whole world. From there the LORD scattered them over the face of the whole earth. "

We still live under the consequences of confused language, don’t we?  Our language  continues to go through change.....not always an indicator of progress.

Driving into Monaca, Pennsylvania, to visit my sister, I noticed a big sign that read “ADULT”.    Usually I’ve learned to look away, because in many places out here on the West coast the advertisement for “Adult” has connections with pornography or sinful nightlife.   However, the picture on this particular sign drew my attention to the rest of the advertisement…..an invitation for Adult learning.   Reading, getting a degree, improving literacy skills for adults.

Funny how culture can shift language.    When I was growing up, “gay” meant happy and “Adult” was something I wanted to become rather than something unbecoming.

Father, thanks that my joy and happiness are rooted in You, the One who is the same yesterday, today, and forever.    I’m thankful that  all your words are inspired and useful for helping me grow up in Christ the Head (2 Tim 3:16, Eph. 4).
