I heard a great fish story
recently. It might even be
true….there were
pictures. Friends of a
friend were
fishing, and watched an eagle flying
gracefully along the surface of the lake.
The serenity was interrupted when a big Northern Pike,
like a rocket
launched from a submarine, broke the
surface of the water and latched on to the Eagle.
I’m sure it must have been a shock for the
fish to realize the Eagle was much
bigger than the shadow he had seen from a submerged perspective. The Pike let go quickly, but the
Eagle
turned around, latched onto the fish with sharp talons, and headed for
shore. The fish was too big
for the
Eagle to get airborne with, yet he kept his enslaving grip. With wings flapping along the surface, the big bird labored all
the way to shore for a very large meal.
What’s the moral? If you’re
going to reach for the sky, make sure you have a
clear view of
your target. A submerged
perspective
may give you the wrong impression. Pray
for God’s viewpoint? Make
sure you
know what you’re setting your eyes upon and sinking your teeth into? It may come back
to bite you.
Prov 23:5
“When you set your
eyes on it, it is gone.
For wealth certainly
makes itself wings
Like an eagle that
flies toward the heavens."
Obadiah 4
"Though you
build high like the eagle ,
Though you set your
nest among the stars,
From there I will
bring you down," declares the LORD.”
Or----from the Eagle’s perspective, there’s another
thought
upon which to reflect. Don’t let go
of
a big fish. With persistence,
perseverance, hard work, and patience, you can land a hungry person. As fishers of men, we can help
even the
most aggressive fish find the safety of God’s shores, even those who
have
bitten you and gotten under your skin.
Mark 1:17-18
“And Jesus said to
them, "Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men."
