2 Cor 5:17-18a
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!  All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ….”

I was talking with a single mom recently about  God’s amazing ability to make all things new as he grows us and builds us.  The conversation had started with her expression of  gratitude that we had  recently put a new roof on her house, and she was delighting in  the impact of that wonderful new covering.

We had started that job by first tearing  off the old shingles and tin.    She commented that when the old roofing materials were  coming off, she was nervous about what would be found underneath.    Would there be too much rot?   Would there be such destruction under the surface that very little was redeemable?    She said she was amazed at how quickly the repairs took place and how little damage there was under the surface.   A few days of exposure to the sunlight did wonders.

Then she applied these thoughts  to her life and those first days as a Christian when God was pealing back the layers to get to her heart.    She was very  surprised, like with the roof,  about not being totally ruined on the inside when things started getting exposed and redeemed in her relationship with God.   She is still amazed at His grace as He healed under the surface, exposed everything in the Son,  and clothed her with a new covering in Christ our Lord.    He  grew her as He  gently pealed away hurt and sin, redeeming what was inside, giving her a new heart of love and peace, and clothing her in the righteousness of Christ.   Powerful thoughts from a woman who loves God.

Jesus was a carpenter, He created us, and He still does great work.
Gal 3:26-28
“You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus,  for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.”

Rom 13:14
“Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.”
