"His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'” (Matt 25:23) What are the few things
I have opportunity to be faithful with? What are the assets
God has given me? Money and resources? The trials
He has used to shape my character? The personality strengths He wired
into me? My ears? A voice? Certainly His Word. I want
to be a faithful steward of the assets God has given me to manage.
I recently purchased some firewood from a rural man with a very large pile of cut and split wood in his yard. Highway travelers can see the large pile of wood from a distance with the obvious sign announcing firewood for sale. As I talked with the man while loading up some nicely cured firewood, I was surprised when he said that he heats his home with oil. I found that a bit amusing, having a huge pile of wood just out his back door and he chooses to pay for oil. Not that he was wasting resources, but sometimes I do. Sometimes I try to access a resource from the wrong place or for the wrong reason. I have made the mistake sometimes of providing for a need in my own strength or in my own way. In those moments when I burn the wrong oil, I’m missing the abundance of God’s resources in Christ (Philippians 4:19). I have a strong appreciation for the way God provides for our needs. I have become convinced that when God calls us to do something He fully empowers us to do it for His glory. He provides all the resources we need to accomplish His will. He supplies all the necessary resources to express our love for Him by serving, right at the door of every opportunity. His fuel is limitless in supply. Father, help us to see Your free provision in Christ. Help us to keep our lamps burning by your fuel, by the flame of your Spirit. We want to hear those words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” =========
