John 14:6-7:   Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Kristi and I were driving along with Jordana, trying to find a building in Baltimore next to a golf course.   We realized we were off track when we ended up at  the maintenance building.    As we pulled up, we encountered  a very nice African American man who was getting into a shop cart to head out on the golf course to do some work.  After asking him about the place we were searching for, we entered in to a great conversation.   He acted like he had known us forever.  He knew about the building we were looking for, and he quickly invited,  “Follow me.”    So, we embarked on a surprising journey.   Soon after departure,  he pulled his cart off the main road and right out onto the golf course, waving us to follow.   At first I thought he was joking.  Drive our little car out onto a golf course in the middle of winter?  That would be a first.  Would some grouchy people in authority be watching?  I know you call the big club a driver, but aren’t there some kind of traffic laws about driving a car out onto the course?  Would people think we were crazy if they saw us?

He wasn’t joking.  With his insistent hand motioning to keep following him, we did.   Right out onto the golf course.  Hole number 9,  I think.  We drove right across the grass.   Right along the fairway.   Crazy.   Why would we follow him like that?   He was winsome and convincing, and he had on the right uniform.  He knew the way, he had been that way before,  he was genuinely interested in us, and he had the authority to lead us.

Hmmmm.   Points my heart to Jesus, who said those powerful words, “Follow me.”   The Bible is full of God’s invitational hand motions in that regard.   I follow Jesus  for a lot of reasons, including the truth that He genuinely cares about us, He knows the way, He has been that way, He IS the way, and He has all the authority to get us where we need to go.

We found the way that day in Baltimore, and we found THE WAY for life.  I’ll follow Him anywhere, even if others think I’m crazy, even across the frozen grasses of hole number……

John 10:27-29:
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.  I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand
