Devotional for Encouragement

“When the priests withdrew from the Holy Place, the cloud filled the temple of the Lord.  And the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled his temple.”
(1 Kings 8:10-11, NIV)

What was it like for the priests that day to be hindered from serving because of the cloud of God’s glory?  I wondered about that as I drove along a highway in a heavy fog.  The rain and clouds were so thick that visibility was severely hindered.  We really couldn’t proceed on the journey because of the clouds.   Is God ever seeking to slow us down from our duties, to hinder what we are trying to do in service, to stop the tasks of our calling in order for us to glory in his presence without doing anything?

I’m fascinated with the scene where the priests couldn’t do what they were called to do because of the manifest presence of God.  It became no doing and all being.  Maybe it’s a re-centering opportunity when that happens, giving us the chance to reflect on the truth of our primary calling-----TO Jesus.  It is good to carve out time to just be with the Father without doing anything.  I mean, are we to DO devotions or  BE with God devotionally?  Something to think about.
