Ps 61:1-4
“Hear my cry, O God;  listen to my prayer.    From the ends of the earth I call to you,  I call as my heart grows faint;  lead me to the rock that is higher than I.   For you have been my refuge,  a strong tower against the foe.  I long to dwell in your tent forever  and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.”

We finally reached a beautiful destination, the reward of a long hike into the Trinity Alps.    It seemed like we were at the ends of the earth, and after the grueling hike we felt at the end of our own resources.    Starting a fire with wet wood, surrounded by snow, was a demanding task that called into question our abilities.  Yet, what a great state of mind for turning to a personal God who is higher then the rocks surrounding our camp of refuge.  We enjoyed reviving strength from the reality of His presence.

After pitching our tents at the high elevation lake,  we soaked in the wonder of a magnificent  body of water surrounded on 3 sides by fabulous granite peaks.   It reminded me of the Psalm, “As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds his people both now and forevermore” (Psalm 125:2).     We had some great discussions and prayers around the campfire, enjoying a deep sense that God was there with us,  in the midst of mountains that served like sentinels guarding a beautiful place of peace.

The weekend was a great visual aid for me, that He is my refuge, a strong tower against enemies.    I had fun tent camping on the shores of a beautiful lake, but it only fanned the flames of desire to dwell in HIS tent forever,  in the shelter of His grace.
