Reading John 10 recently, I
was reminded of Zach’s graduation ceremony from USMC
bootcamp---which was
awesome. The marching was sharp. It was a great
expression of teamwork, marching to a unified beat provided by
the Marine
Corps Band.
There was one slightly
embarrassing moment,
however, not noticed by many but certainly seen by the commanding
officer. When the band leader gave the
order for
the musicians to turn, it was designed only for his marching
musicians.
In the platoon following behind them, however, 3 of the guys also
turned at his
command. They were obedient, but to the instructions
of
the wrong commander. The failure to tune in to their
leader
caused them to get out of step.
This
reminded me of two great
principles that I want to keep alive in my own life……
--We
can know the voice of our commander.
John
10:26-27
"My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me."
--We
must be aware of wrong voices.....there is a deceiver who seeks to
get us
out of step
John 10:10
"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that
they
may have life, and have it to the full."
John 10:3-6
“The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his
voice. He
calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has
brought out
all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because
they
know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact,
they will
run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger's voice."
