Devotional for Encouragement  

                
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things”  (Phil 4:8-9).

Our niece was with us for a few days recently.  Emma was using her imagination while she ate some candy, making references to things she was thinking about as she ate each piece.  The colors reminded her of images from some of the fiction stories she was reading.    She said she has a very big imagination and it has a very big appetite.   So, she needs to feed it with lots of colorful candies.   Her comments brought a smile to my face and inspired me to reflect on  a colorful verse I’m feeding my  imagination with today:    “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!”   (Psalm 119:103).

We all have seasons where choosing optimism and embracing thanksgiving requires that we draw upon a sanctified imagination.  I’m especially thankful for the sustaining provision and blessing of God’s Word in that regard.  “For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.”  (1 Tim 4:4-5)

Somebody said that Thanksgiving is good, but ThanksLIVING is greater.  Living thankfully requires an optimistic decision of a sanctified imagination being fed on the Word of God.    “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.”   (1 Thess 5:16-18)
