Matt 22:9-10
“ ‘Go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.'  So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, both good and bad, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.”

I  want to be an inviting Christian.

Sitting by the Sacramento River, I listened to an approaching train.    I could hear it coming with a steady rumble. There is something about a traveling train, full of cargo and people.  The steady rumble of metal wheels on metal tracks  sends forth an invitation to join in the journey with other travelers and unknown cargo to mysterious destinations.   From the perspective of seclusion, sitting by a turbulent river, there was an element of attraction to the approaching train, a quality that drew thoughts of wonder as to who and what was on board and what exciting place they were traveling to.    The sound was like that of a traveling pilgrim.

But that serene moment was interrupted by the shock blast of the loud horn.   It ruined the inviting component with a bold warning to stay clear.

I’d like to talk to the train guy.   The noise of that horn is appropriate at some of life’s intersections, but not out here where isolated sojourners might want to climb on board.

May my witness be ever inviting and never the overwhelming blast of the trumpet reserved for times where warnings are of high necessity.   For that, Lord, please grant wisdom.   May my life be a peaceful journey that invites  others into  the mysterious joy of being a fellow traveler in following Christ.
