I picked up poison oak
somewhere. What I’d like to do
is dig
my fingernails in and scratch to my heart's delight. But that wouldn’t do anything but cause more
damage.
I recognized during our
early morning walk the value of physical exercise----serving to both
increase
my will power and offer a better focus (the inspiration of God’s
creation,
talking with my wife, prayer patterned with forward progress). The itches didn’t
bother me when I was
busy with productive activity.
There
are other ailments
where scratching the itch can be the worst thing I could do…..cuts,
sunburn,
dengue fever…..the itches of various sinful temptations where further
damage
could be the result of giving in. It
takes self discipline to ignore what you’d love to do for relief. It is in that battleground of the
mind
where God’s power is manifested and my character is built.
I trust that you are
experiencing victory in Jesus today, no matter how strong the draw to
do
otherwise.
“For physical training
is of
some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for
both
the present life and the life to come.” (1
Tim. 4:4:8)
