Flying into Chicago recently, I watched a
great thunderstorm from my
window seat. The
combination of a full moon, impressive
clouds, and the dynamics of a nighttime storm were cause for a moment
of
awe. Over and over there were huge
flashes of light and long bolts of lightning. Beautiful and powerful.
I reflected
on a recent
email from our son, Zachary, deployed with the U.S.M.C., who spoke of a
“God
moment” as he watched a thunderstorm from
the high mountains of Afghanistan.
He
experienced a sense of peace in the presence of a powerful God who is above all else, even enemies.
God is greater than anything this world can
produce. That peace that
passes
understanding is something fresh for him in the face of recent battle
wounds.
The
perspective of a
thunderstorm from above was a blessing. I could easily envision written
across the clouds ….”Be still before
the LORD, all mankind, because he has roused himself from his holy
dwelling." (Zech 2:13).
Or, Psalm
46:10…"Be still , and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the
nations, I will be exalted in the earth." Or,
perhaps the verses Kristi and I have
been memorizing together from Psalm 19…….
”The heavens declare
the
glory of God, the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”
