~Luke 15:9~ I had a wonderful
conversation with my barber the other
day. As he cut my few remaining
hairs,
he told me about a very special day he experienced on the 4th
of
July. His wife found her wedding
ring,
which had been lost for over 3 years. They
celebrated. I
asked him if
he had ever heard the story in the Bible about the woman who lost the
coin and
celebrated when she found it. Friends
and neighbors even rejoiced with her. We
talked about how that chapter in the Bible has 3 lost and found
stories, and
celebration took place when the lost were found.
It opened the door to share a bit of my
testimony of the great celebration when I cried out to God to be found
and
rescued from my own lostness. It
didn’t
happen on the 4th of July, but it was the best fireworks
I’ve ever
experienced.
July 4th is
Independence Day, a day when we
celebrate our liberation. One of the
greatest
features of our independence, in my opinion, is the freedom to live by
faith in
dependence on a loving God, along with others in interdependence. A friend recently said, “What we
need is a
declaration of dependence.” Dependence
like Jesus talked about when he said, “Apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5b). That
is freedom worth dying for, secured by a risen Savior
worth living
for, with dependence worth rejoicing in. The
resulting interdependence sparks celebrating hearts
with friends and
neighbors found----and there is no better fireworks.
