“Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord,  always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”   (Eph 5:19-20, NIV)

We really enjoyed visiting our son, Zachary, at his base in Hawaii upon his return from Iraq.   Especially delightful were the conversations about God and his provision and protection.    These discussions were moments of worship for me, music in the heart of a father proud of his son.    I am thankful.

Speaking of music, we were  driving in Honolulu one day with the windows down in the tropical heat, and we had the Christian radio station playing.    I was singing along with a favorite worship song that fed my heart with wonderful thoughts of being with God and with my family.  A car pulled up next to us at a red light, his radio blaring a loud song with a booming bass, music to a different drummer.  I could no longer hear our radio, but I kept singing that worship song I had tuned in.  The green light launched us on the journey again, and it was a special moment for me when I realized I was still singing the same notes when our radio could once again be heard.  Not a beat was missed, even though other music of the world had drowned out the song.

I pray that God is helping all of us today to live that way, singing HIS song in our heart even when the distractions of the world threaten to drown out the music!  Father, may Your voice and Your heartbeat be clear to the ears of my soul this week!
