I
thought about leadership as I read Isaiah 22:20-25 this
morning. We desperately need secure
leaders in our day and age. Eliakim was
called a servant, given the mantle of authority, called to be a father, and he was likened to a peg in a secure
place.
In the shop I have large nails driven into the
seasoned wood
of the barn which serve as great pegs to hang stuff on.
I’ve found that if I hang too much stuff on
a nail it gives way. That is
especially true if I have failed to drive the nail in far enough so
that it is
secure.
Followers of Jesus are
like nails----made by the strong
Creator of quality materials, having a backbone of biblical commitment,
a life
pointing to the cross and the nails driven into the hands of our
suffering
servant Savior. We
are called to an abundant life that is
useful, purposeful, and makes a point.
We are blessed with renewal of the mind by the Word of God
(Rom. 12:1-2)
which shapes a head driven into a place of security in Christ.
May we live sharp lives
that point to Jesus and hold things
together, bearing burdens with others.
May people peg you as someone they can hold on to, someone
who holds
things together. You don’t have to have
it all together to hold things together and bear the load.
You just need to be driven into a secure
place.
“I will drive him
like a peg into a firm place….” (Isaiah
22:23).
