Ps 125:1-2
Those who trust in
the LORD are like Mount
Zion,
which cannot be
shaken but endures forever.
As the mountains
surround Jerusalem,
so the LORD surrounds
his people
both now and
forevermore.
We
went hunting recently, on a cold morning.
Climbing hard in the dark pre-dawn hour, we
arrived at the top of a mountain ridge.
We shivered as we sat on a rock awaiting the sun, and
hunkered down in
the protection of some wind-blocking boulders.
When first light finally arrived, misty
clouds blowing over the ridge were the only thing in view, with
occasional
breaks to see just far enough to make out the shapes of trees and rocks. We were hoping for a good view in order
to
scope distant ridges. Even if a break came in the mist, the scope on my rifle was
in need of defrosting. The
blowing
fog made it impossible to tell
that we were on the top of a mountain, and the cold wind inhibited our
ability
to hear any moving critters. Had
we
not
known our location, there was no indication that we were at high
elevation.
Sometimes the scene is similar in life.
The circumstances could reduce spiritual sight and rob me
of the
perspective that God wants me to see.
I may not be able to see the
distant clearings, but
a faith journey assured. Shaking in the cold,
maybe, but not
shaken. Even
in the cold, dark, foggy
times He is on the mountaintop and the ridgeline with me. He is there, a Rock of
protection. That reality can
brighten
even the darkest valley, and enlighten my
perspective no matter where I’m found.
We don't need a visible mountaintop. That is cause
for a moment
of elevated worship.

Ps 95:4-7
In his hand are the
depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him.
The sea is his, for he made it, and
his hands
formed the dry land.
Come, let us bow down
in worship, let us kneel before the LORD our Maker;
for he is our God and
we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care.
