PSALM 16

Verses 1-4:
“Keep me safe, O God, for in you I take refuge.
I said to the LORD, ‘You are my Lord;
apart from you I have no good thing.’
As for the saints who are in the land,
they are the glorious ones in whom is all my delight.
The sorrows of those will increase who run after other gods.
I will not pour out their libations of blood or take up their names on my lips.”

We love our safe little apartment, so thankful for God’s good provision.   We have been praying for our neighbors, some of whom run after other gods,  in sorrow.  We’re trying to bridge relationally, but  boundary lines have been in  place.   Not too much interaction, not much name exchange, until yesterday.

Ps 16:5-6
“LORD, you have assigned me my portion and my cup;
you have made my lot secure.
The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
surely I have a delightful inheritance.”

I was working on our computer when I heard a significant noise followed by a power outage.    Everything shut down.    A telephone pole, rotted out at the bottom, fell randomly, perpendicular to the street, blocking traffic for hours.   It was amazing that nobody was hurt.    In the midst of fallen power lines, however, we experienced some pleasant fellowship with many of the neighbors in our apartment complex.   Some of them even brought out lawn chairs and barbecue grills to hang out and watch the repair crews, who worked all night.    Somehow, God blessed us with sleep even with the distracting voices and modern machinery.

Psalm 16:7
I will praise the LORD, who counsels me;
even at night my heart instructs me.

Out of power, blockage of traffic, extra work, dangerous situation because of a telephone pole that had rotted around it’s foundation.   I thanked God that he has made our lot and foundation secure.    I pray His help to  avoid those things that could bring rot from the inside out, leading to a shaky stand, not able to hold any power, falling dangerously.   I pray for further interaction with neighbors who need the power of Christ in their lives, that the remaining boundary lines will fall in pleasant places.

Psalm 16:8
I have set the LORD always before me.
Because he is at my right hand,
I will not be shaken.
