2 Kings 4:32-35
"When Elisha reached the house, there was the boy lying dead on his couch. He went in, shut the door on the two of them and prayed to the LORD. Then he got on the bed and lay upon the boy, mouth to mouth, eyes to eyes, hands to hands. As he stretched himself out upon him, the boy's body grew warm. Elisha turned away and walked back and forth in the room and then got on the bed and stretched out upon him once more. The boy sneezed seven times and opened his eyes.” I’ve always wondered why the boy sneezed in this story of Elisha. I don’t know why he sneezed 7 times, but I know that He opened his eyes after doing so. Did you know that it is almost impossible for a person to keep their eyes open during a sneeze? Try it. Breathing is a sign of life, but sneezing is a sign of liveliness. Sneezing cause people to say, “God bless you.” So, why not let it rip? As disrupting as it can be, there’s nothing like a powerful, freely released sneeze that reminds others that you are alive and invites them to bless you. Everybody knows what a sneeze is, but how would you describe it? Try that. According to “Wikipedia,” the free internet based encyclopedia, a sneeze in In some parts of India, bystanders to a sneeze shout, "Live!" eliciting a response from the sneezer, "Live with you!" The response in Turkey to a sneeze is similar to that in India. People often say 'live long,' or 'live well,' and the response is 'All together' or 'Same to you.' Here is another interesting tidbit…..some people sneeze when they look at the sun or a bright light. This has been recognized in medical journals, and is called different things, including the "photic sneeze reflex" and even the "ACHOO syndrome". I took some medicine for an allergy to dogs when I stayed with friends recently, so that I wouldn’t be sneezing all the time. It was a very interesting moment when I looked at the dog, he looked up at me, and HE sneezed. Maybe he was allergic to me. Maybe it was a “doggy Achoo syndrome” in response to an angel behind me. Well, anyways, sneezing your way through life is better than snoozing. So, God bless you. |
