Phil
2:24-25
“But I thought it
necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother and fellow worker and
fellow
soldier, who is also your messenger and minister to my need”
On a recent flight I sat next to a retired policeman who had
some very close friends who were U.S.Marines.
He talked about the bonds between Marines who have been in
battle as a deep
connection seldom experienced by civilians.
There is a deep trust which
develops when you have covered each others backs, taken fire together,
been injured
together, and seen the worst that the enemy can throw at you.
Is not that kind of bond possible in the
church? Perhaps Paul and Timothy had
that kind of
bond as soldiers of Christ.
“Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ
Jesus. No soldier in active service
entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may
please the
one who enlisted him as a soldier.” (2
Timothy 2:3-4)
Can we be brothers and fellow soldiers in our
fellowship? Can we do something that
invades the turf of the enemy and reach out to lost people?
The advantage of the Marines is the disciplined training
before battle. I love the discipline
of study and training
together with others of common Kingdom purpose~!.
