We spent some time at the source
of Spring Creek recently, where Lewistown gets it’s water supply.
It is known as some of the purest water in the world. The source
springs are a very peaceful and refreshing place. It reminded
me of the references in Jeremiah 2:13 and 17:13, where God is referred to
as the spring of living water.
The bubbling waters of the springs opened the tap of a wonderful discussion.
I don’t understand all the geology, but I do know that watching the bubbles
inspired curiosity. Something significant was happening beneath
the surface. Like with the Christian life.
Much is happening beneath the surface as we spend time in Bible Study and
prayer, in the deeper life of devotion unto our God. From that
source spring of the deeper life there is an overflow, a bubbling forth into
the peaceful place and unto the places beyond. I would love to
imagine people getting curious about that bubbling peace in those following
Christ as their source of hope and joy and peace.
Spring Creek is known for it’s pure water, it’s beauty, and for providing
a wonderful environment for fish and other wildlife. Many people
discover the joy and fun of tubing, swimming, and fishing this wonderful
Lewistown stream. The people of this area would affirm that the world
is a better place because of Spring Creek.
My heart longs to shout and
echo the same about the church. Followers of Jesus have the privilege
and honor of being a people of the living water, offering pure refreshment,
a safe place of peace, and kingdom fun!
There is a wonderful mystery involved in observing Spring Creek.
Looking at the peaceful springs at the source, it seems to defy logic that
so much water could be flowing so fast and so full just a short distance
downstream. The amount of water flowing to the places beyond
doesn’t seem to match the quiet bubbling place of it’s source.
What happens beneath the surface is more significant than we might ever imagine.
What happens when we spend time in prayer and worship unto God is much deeper
than we might ever dream.
God, make me more thirsty for You, hungry and thirsty for righteousness,
knowing that there is always more of You and the life You grace upon us.
With You as the source, the fullness of the abundant life is in eternal supply.
John 4:10:
“Jesus answered her, ‘If you knew the gift of God and who it is that
asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you
living water .’"
John 7:38-39:
“Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living
water will flow from within him.”
Rev 7:17:
“For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd;
he will lead them to springs of living water .
And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."
