“Jesus answered, ‘Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.’" (John 4:13-14) Driving to the
office recently, I had to take a detour. Traffic was stopped because
a semi truck had tried to turn on a sharp corner and his cargo trailer clipped
a fire hydrant. Water was gushing in abundance out into the street.
It stopped the trucker’s journey. He had a water encounter on
a significant corner. I was caught by the contrast between a truck driver
who had a destructive accident and the flowing water that looked so constructive
and clean.
The woman in John 4 had a significant water encounter, facing a turning point in her life when she met Jesus at a well. Her baggage caught up with her as she drew water for Jesus. The water of the well was a visual aid for a powerful lesson which transformed a damaged life. It happened to me a number of years ago. My cargo trailer, the baggage of life, caught up with me. I had a water encounter on one of life’s significant corners. I met Jesus in that place, living water welling up unto eternal life. Now my thirst for Him and His righteousness brings life. He refreshes my soul, and I now drink from His wellspring not by accident by with thirsty intent. That is worth stopping traffic for on busy days with so many things on the road we journey. “Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.” (Rev 22:1-3) =========
