"Gen 8:6-7….. “After forty
days Noah opened the window he had
made in the ark…”
It has
been raining and raining here in California. The sun came out for a short
time
yesterday, and I thought about Noah. What
was it like for him to finally open some windows
after all those
rainy days? He must have enjoyed
looking out and breathing in.
Looking out through our windows, I noticed how dirty the
glass is. Windows get dirty. The dirt and grime gets more pronounced
when
the sun comes out. The sunshine accents
the spots. It will take some work to
get them clean. I’m reminded how Delice,
who lived with us in the MK Gatehouse last year, loved to wash the
windows. It was always a thrill to
take
in the view after she had cleaned the glass and opened the way for
transparency
once again. I think that’s why
she
liked the task, because she is transparent and honest in her
relationship with
God and with others. She likes
authentic,
clean windows into the world and into hearts.
Looking out and in. It
doesn’t just happen, we have to work at
it.
Noah sent out a dove, and it came back with good news.
As the dove entered through an open window
for Noah, may the Holy Spirit enter in
through open hearts. I’m
breathing in
and looking out.
