"And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit." (2 Cor 3:18, NIV)
One image that comes to mind for me as I read this verse is the sun and the moon. The moon has no light of its own, but reflects the sunlight. On a dark night it shines with a likeness of the sun’s glory, but it isn’t the sun.
I was reminded a couple of weeks ago at a Rotary meeting that the sun and the moon are optically the same size. They perfectly eclipse each other. They take up the same amount of space in the sky to the human eye.
Yet, we know they are not really the same size. Not even close.
We are called to reflect the Lord’s glory as we follow Jesus and are transformed to become more and more like him.
Father help us to spend less time trying to generate our own light and focus on reflecting you.
Help us to look fully into Your brilliance as the sovereign God of light. Help us not to turn our backs on the world and so eclipse your glory to people who need light. May our faces reflect the joy of your glorious presence no matter what darkness we encounter. Empower us to shine with Your light.
