    Contentment

    ~Video Version~

    ----------------------------------------

    Philippians 4:11

“I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.”

Contentment.  Would you call that a common quality in our world?

I’m inspired by the story of Arsenius, a man in the 5th century who abandoned the comforts of Egyptian society to simplify, focus on his spiritual life, and live out in the desert with only the basics.  It is said that whenever he visited the great city of Alexandria, he spent time wandering through all the bazaars and markets.   Asked why, he explained that his heart rejoiced at the sight of all the things he didn’t need.

Hmmm.  Maybe I’ll run down to Walmart today and walk around and pray thanks to God for all the things I see that I don’t need.

In Philippians 4:19, Paul wrote, “My God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.”

I pray you experience some of the joy and peace of contentment today.
