Bugged

David took down a giant with one stone (written about in 1 Samuel 17). I’m thinking today about what David wrote in Psalm 3:1, “O Lord, I have so many enemies; so many are against me. David had a number of enemies, but they weren’t all giants like Goliath. In fact, as one paraphrase of Psalm 3 writes it, “Oh Lord, how many are my little frustrating foes.”
David had some real major enemies, so might you, but do you ever feel frustrated by not being able to put your finger on what the real enemies are, like little frustrating bugs?
I mean it’s those little nasty mosquitoes you can barely see that really bug me. You can’t use a sling and stone against those little annoying things but they are real enemies. In some places they can carry deadly diseases like Malaria. Here is some bug repellant….
James 1:2, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.” Some problems and struggles are really big things, giants like Goliath that God took down through David and his courageous heart of faith. But, some trials involve little things that just bug you.
Back in the early 20th century Thomas Edison used the phrase “Get the bugs out” to refer to removing technical errors. I have heard computer tech people use those words. I remember being overseas and Kris asked our son Zachary to help her get the bugs out of a package of spaghetti that had little enemies in it. We couldn’t just throw the spaghetti away, it was too valuable where we were.
Are there any bugs annoying you? Anything bugging you? God is really good at debugging when we give the package of our lives to Him. He would never toss you aside like a package of bugged up spaghetti…you are too valuable.
Here are some words you might be encouraged by, said by David, recorded in 2 Samuel 22:20, “He rescued me because He delighted in me.” I pray you don’t get bugged today, but that you sense the powerful presence and pleasure of God taking delight in you.
