Living Stones

The prophet Jeremiah prophesied the setting of the book of Daniel. In Jeremiah 20:5, it says, “All the famed treasures of the city—the precious jewels and gold and silver of your kings—will be carried off to Babylon.”
And precious people were taken there too, including Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. Their names got changed, but the quality of their character didn’t change. They were God’s jewels, His gold and silver. They were rock solid in their faith.
Fast forward to the New testament, 1 Peter 2:5 says, “And YOU are living stones that God is building into His spiritual temple.”
The rocks on this steam bed are the same as the ones in the stream. But if you look closely at those on the shore and those in the water, the rocks in the river are much more dynamic. They seem clean, the colors are more vibrant and alive, like precious stones washed by pure water in the hands of our King.
If you are a Jesus follower, you are like a washed, colorful, living stone, cleaned by living water, useful in God’s hands, pleasant to look at.
That is worth pondering today! Let’s stand rock solid in our faith and reveal the colors of God’s hands in our lives.
