LOVE

****************************
I’m thinking about LOVE this week. Today I’m reflecting on these words in
1 John 4:9
“This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.”
I love the ocean. Wait, I don’t want to rob any power from the word “love” so let me rephrase that, I really like the ocean. I’m fascinated by it. And it is a picture of God’s love for me.
One thing about the ocean is the immensity of it, the expanse that forms a horizon of so many mysteries beyond. It makes me feel smaller, while at the same time the ocean helps me see the awesome creativity of our Creator. A little like God’s love…bigger than I can fathom, never-ending in supply, with so many mysteries of love to ponder on the horizon of what I can see---knowing there is much more beyond.
Something else that intrigues me about the ocean is the rhythmic, patterned waves, especially when accented by the reflections of a sunset or a full moon that causes the waters to glisten. Like his love, precious like glistening jewels and unending in the resourceful rhythmic love that God pours out on the shores of our lives.
Some days He pours forth extra grace like the bigger waves. Some days He endures my backwash and lack of faith and still loves me anyway. But always I can expect the next wave of His love as HE shapes the shores of my life with fresh living waters from His heart to mine.
That’s what I’m thinking about today as I ponder our word for this week, LOVE---especially God’s love.
