New Year New You
Jan 6, 2026
***********************
I’m thinking about 2 Corinthians 5:16-17 today.
“So we have stopped evaluating others from a human point of view. At one time we thought of Christ merely from a human point of view. How differently we know him now! This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”
New life! Exclamation point!
We are a number of days into the new year now, maybe with a whole new you. Every day can be a new fresh start.
On New Year’s Eve I was remembering the day we got rid of a plant that the deer had been chewing on. From a human point of view it wasn’t doing well. It seemed to be dying. So, we got rid of it, throwing it into the rocky area behind some trees in the back yard.
A few weeks later we noticed that the plant had somehow re-rooted itself. It’s like the plant wanted to prove it could survive even the toughest treatment and the injustice of being misunderstood as a dying plant. The plant not only survived but it had thrived, like God had done a miracle of regeneration and renewal in the face of people giving up on it.
My dad, in his mercy and grace, helped the plant and repotted it. Even after being devalued and discarded, it flourished in the new soil, blossoming to God’s glory. It became a beautiful plant, growing like it was totally regenerated. It just needed a replant with an environmental change that granted renewed opportunity.
There are people and forces in the world who would like to see you deleted and discarded. It might feel like some people have given up on you, or someone you know.
Not God. Nothing can separate you from His love. Be encouraged. It’s a whole new year for a whole new you!
