Pain and Praise

Habakkuk 3:17-18
“Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior.”
Our grandson, Jack, loves trains. He can play with them for hours, he loves the train museum and riding on trains.
I’m thinking today about how our lives are a bit like trains running on two tracks. There are always two tracks.
One track is the pain track. No grapes on the vines, no sheep in the pens, no money for the bills, life hurts. If it’s not your pain, you have a friend in pain.
But there is another parallel track, the track of praise. In the words of Habakkuk, “YET I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior.” There is always something to praise God for. There is always something we can grab onto to fuel gratitude and joy.
Two parallel tracks always in place, the pain track and the praise track. Both are important for understanding the empowering presence of Jesus who keeps our lives moving forward.
Whatever your pain or problem today, I pray you can find reason for praise.
