Thanksgiving Laughter
Nov 25, 2025
----------------------------------------
Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, "The Lord has done great things for them." The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.
~Psalm 126:2-3~
With Thanksgiving Day approaching and the reminders to give thanks every day, I’m thankful today for laughter. I’m thankful for a wife who makes me laugh. I’m thankful for my grandkids who are always a source cheerful belly laughter. I’m thankful to be part of a church family where laughter is heard. I’m thankful for kids in the church and the community who make me laugh with a deep sense of pleasure and joy in their innocent honesty and fun loving qualities.
I’m thankful that God has enabled me to laugh the hardest at myself.
Authentic laughter and joy go together. God’s work fuels true joy.
A friend told me about the Space Station once. Though travelling very fast through space, there is no “power” used to keep it going. Thus, it is in a state of rest. The world spins around us and under us, yet in Christ we remain at rest in Him, and in Him alone. Christ is the gravity who holds us in orbit, and He is the one Who fuels joy and enables laughter to emerge from the state of rest.
And that scene makes me laugh, the thought of floating through space in the safety of a Christ empowered orbit, moving and working with joy propelled by the exhaling laughter and the dancing movement energized by a heart set free.
So, I’m thankful today for the joy filled work that flows from resting in HIM and the laughter made possible as He lightens me up.
